DC SHRM Elected and Appointed Board Positions 2021

The President-Elect assists the President in overseeing activities and performs presidential responsibilities in the President's absence.  

The Secretary maintains the minutes from monthly Board of Directors meetings and performs other record-keeping for the chapter.  

The Treasurer is responsible for financial reporting to the board and chapter.

Vice President, Communications
The VP Communications is responsible for preparing content for the chapter's monthly E-newsletter, and overseeing the publication of all chapter events and activities through social media. 

Vice President, Education
The VP Education oversees the mentoring program and workforce readiness initiatives. 

Vice President, Government Affairs
The VP Government Affairs monitors and evaluates pending legislative, regulatory and legal action at the federal, state and local level; providing that information to our members through a variety of channels, such as programs, webinars, and newsletter articles.   

Vice President, Membership
The VP Membership cultivates and provides orientation for new members, promotes member benefits, identifies and provides outreach to potential members, evaluates membership benefits, coordinates member networking events, and solicits engagement of volunteers.

Vice President, Programs & Professional Development
The VP Programs takes responsibility for planning and executing the monthly chapter events of the organization and the association’s annual conference.     

Vice President, Sponsorship
The VP Sponsorship seeks out sponsor organizations to participate in DC SHRM events including monthly chapter programs, conferences, survey events, webinars, etc.   

Director, SHRM and VA SHRM State Council
This Director serves as a liaison between the chapter and SHRM.  This role is by presidential appointment and is often filled by the immediate past-president.  This Director also serves as the chapter representative on the VA SHRM State Council, attending 75% of all state council functions and reporting to the chapter.  

Director, Surveys
This Director oversees the Compensation and Benefits Committees in the annual production of the HRA-NCA Compensation Survey, Benefits Survey, Government Contractors Survey, and Salary Survey reports.  Also oversees and coordinates any survey-related events or webinars.  This role is by presidential appointment.

Director, Certification
This Director promotes professional certification opportunities through SHRM and the HR Certification Institute and coordinates appropriate preparation classes or study groups for HR professionals based on interest. This role is by presidential appointment.

Director, Young Professionals
This Director engages young professionals and coordinates education and networking events for the young professional demographic, currently defined as those 30 or under. This role is by presidential appointment.

Director, Military Partnerships
This Director promotes membership to military HR professionals and looks for ways to partner on veteran initiatives and resources for employers.
