HR’s New Leadership Imperatives

NOTE: You must attend this session live. It will not be recorded.

Even before the massive disruptions of COVID-19, the workplace was changing drastically— and faster than many HR leaders could plan for. Now we’re making some of the hardest decisions of our careers, because we must delicately and constantly balance people’s lives and livelihoods. From getting back to work safely to navigating heightened tensions around racism and bias in the workplace, HR professionals are essentially “workplace first responders.” Join Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM’s President & CEO, in a discussion of the new leadership priorities for HR and how SHRM and our members are leading the journey toward better workplaces and a better world.

Friday, October 2

Rachel Druckenmiller, MS  (Keynote Description and Bio)
Founder & CEO

Topic: C3 - Igniting Intentional Leadership

What leadership skills will be needed for the future of work? In this digital age, as technology continues to take center stage, human skills and authentic, intentional leadership are more important than ever. As HR professionals, what are the skills to develop in yourself and in your leaders to stay relevant and influential in the future? This keynote will empower you and equip you with practical skills to boost your influence and impact, so you can be a catalyst for change and a more effective and connected leader. Leaders who implement the skills explored in this session will foster greater courage, curiosity and connection, and our workplace cultures will be positively impacted because of your future-ready, human leadership.

Hire One: Providing a Second Chance

The Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency (CSOSA) supervises thousands of people on probation, supervised release, and parole in the District of Columbia. CSOSA has extensive experience working in-house and throughout the community to provide training and identify employment opportunities. In this session, CSOSA leaders, employers, and other partners will provide an overview of Second Chance hiring, explain how talent is identified, trained, and referred, and give a preview of a new jobs campaign called, “Hire One.”

The “Hire One” initiative aims to connect employers with an untapped and under-utilized talent pool. Gainful employment is the cornerstone of stability and growth for the men and women the Agency supervises. Too often those that have been justice-involved are marred by their past transgressions. The path towards redemption and restoration starts with an opportunity.
